My Story / About the Artist
Hello! I am Matt Smith, the solo creative behind The Regal Boar. I am a professional artist who works in the advertising industry in Greensboro North Carolina. Since my full time job relies on digital skills, (working on a computer) I found a need to create something physical with my hands. I only took one class in Jewelry Making in art school many years ago, the rest has been self taught. In 2019 I started this hobby and as years progressed it has evolved into a small business. and The Regal Boar was born.
The goal of my work is to create unique wearable art that elevates the individuality and distinctive style of the person who wears it. Throughout my creative process, I invest ample time with a focus on craftsmanship and pour my creativity into each piece, ensuring that you wear something truly exceptional and distinct. Thanks for stopping by and supporting my one of a kind wild art.

My Process
I find beauty in imperfection and inspiration from the world, nature, the wild and the weird.
Each piece is crafted by my hands, I do not mass produce any jewelry. Every piece is one of a kind, unique and made with care. On the backside you will see my maker's mark “TRB”.
It all starts with a stone. Its color, pattern, striations and unique properties inspire the design to create the jewelry piece it will become. Once the ideas start forming I turn to my sketchbook to design what it will look like, what elements will compliment the stone and then the vision starts taking shape.
The heart of my work is hand-fabrication, creating the setting starts with the sheet metal. From that blank piece of metal it will be sawed, filed, drilled, textured, hammered and formed into a work of art. Using a torch flame I am able to soften the metal to attach embellishments, hand made components and form the bezel to hold the gem stone. Patinas and the finishing process are all done by hand.
When purchasing materials and gemstones I spend a lot of time and research to make sure it is ethically sourced, either made in the U.S. or from reputable vendors. When purchasing tools, components and other resources I prefer to support American small businesses. My silver is purchased from Rio Grande and I do not purchase stones from retailers/shops that are overseas or that are not transparent on how their product is sourced.
